Pain management failing as fears of prescription drug abuse rise
Millions of Americans with significant or chronic pain associated with their medical problems are being under-treated as physicians increasingly fail to provide comprehensive pain treatment — either due to inadequate training, personal biases or fear of prescription drug abuse. (More)

TA-CD (Cocaine Conjugate Vaccine)
Cocaine is a substance of abuse whose primary sites of action in the brain have been identified as the monoamine neurotransmitter transporters for dopamine (DAT), serotonin (SERT) and norepinephrine (NET). DAT, SERT and NET regulate the amount of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine available for signal transduction by removing excess monoamine from the synapse back to the presynaptic neuron. Cocaine is able to bind to these transporters and causes a blockade in neurotransmitter reuptake by the presynaptic neuron, thus prolonging neurotransmitter availability in the synaptic cleft.
